At First Presbyterian Church,
children and youth are an important part of the life of our
congregation. We are committed to providing the highest quality
Christian education experience possible for our young people through
creative programs and service opportunities. We desire that our children
and youth have a fundamental knowledge of the Scriptures so that they
can develop a clear understanding of Christianity and have a firm grasp
of Reformed theology. Most of all, we hope that our youth will know the
love of God, feel the Presence of the God’s Spirit in their lives, and
follow the example of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
We hope that our broad range of programs will provide ways in which our
children and youth can mature in their personal, religious faith.
Through activities that include mission, service, leadership, prayer and
study, we seek to nurture their spiritual growth. We appreciate and love
the children and young people in our congregation. They are a vital part
of our church family.
Sunday
School and Children’s Church
Sunday School
will be on break
for the summer and will resume in the fall
Sunday School for preschool through fifth grade is held in the Christian
Education Building. Sunday School for youth is an exciting way for our
young people to learn about the Christian faith and to experience God
together. The Middle School Class meets in the Christian Education
Building, while the Senior High Class meets in the Youth House.
Children’s Church
Following the Children’s Time during the worship service, children ages
3 years through first grade are invited to Children’s Church. This
special time is designed to help young children learn about worship
through age-appropriate lessons and activities.
Nursery and Toddler Care
The Nursery is open for infants and toddlers during the worship service.
Silent pagers are given to parents with children in the nursery.
Parents Morning Out
will be on break for the summer and will resume in the
fall
On Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, from 9 to 11 a.m., toddlers
enjoy a special time with friends while their mothers have free time.
This program runs concurrently with the school year.
Vacation Bible School
In June 2008, the children of our
congregation will enjoy Vacation Bible School. Children and
volunteers gather each morning from 8:50 a.m. through noon to
explore their relationship with God through planned activities.
Children in the community also are invited to register
(561-276-6338, ext. 23) for this summer program.
Youth Ministry
Sunday Night Youth Group is a great time for the youth of our
congregation to gather together and learn more about God and the
Christian faith. Fifth Grade and Middle School Youth Group meet from 5
to 6:30 p.m. The Senior High Youth Group meets from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Both
groups eat dinner together. These groups run concurrent with the school
calendar.
Youth Mission Trips
During the summer, our Senior High youth volunteer to do a mission
project. They travel with their advisors to different places to work on
projects ranging from construction projects to helping in homeless
shelters and food pantries. Youth mission trips are wonderful ways for
the young people in our congregation to experience life in various parts
of the country and to see God working through the lives of many,
different people. These trips take our youth out of their comfort zone,
giving them experiences that help them deepen their understanding of
life for people less fortunate than themselves. Mission trips are a
wonderful way for our young people to live out their faith in the world.
Youth Conferences
We strive to enable our youth to participate in Presbyterian youth
conferences and events. Participation in special events, such as the
Montreat Youth Conference which is held every summer in Montreat, NC,
are wonderful ways for our youth to meet other Presbyterian youth from
throughout the country. Conferences include music, small groups, fun,
fellowship and worship, to help our youth grow and develop their
religious faith and spiritual lives.
Youth Leadership
It is important that our youth take an active and visible role in the
life of our congregation. We try to provide a variety of ways in which
they can share their faith with others. Youth Sunday is a special
worship service led by our youth and held annually. During Vacation
Bible School, youth participate as leaders, using their talents and
gifts to help teach and lead the younger children of our church.
Throughout the year, our young people also participate in a variety of
community service projects.
